Play the driedel
May love and light fill your home and heart at Hanukkah. ~Author Unknown
Make a dreidel
Dreidel is a traditional game played during Hanukkah. The dreidel is a top with four sides, each with a different Hebrew letter printed on it. The letters include nun, gimel, hay and shin.
Have players sit in a circle.Hand out an equal amount of Hanukkah gelt, that is, foil-wrapped chocolate coins or any small treats. Here we wrapped some chocolate coated raisin with foil wraps.
Take turns to spin the dreidel. Make a driedel if you dont have one.
Check out this printable to make a dreidel.
We used this to make one. The kids cut it out and colored them and enjoyed playing the game.
If "nun" appears, you get nothing. If "gimel" appears, you win the whole pot in the center of the table.
If "hay" appears, you win half the pot.
If the dreidel lands on "Nun" the player gets nothing.
If "shin" appears, you must put a piece of your own chocolate into the pot.
Have each player place onegelt into the pot every time it empties completely.Play until one player wins all the gelt at the table.
